Provide Supported Workspace Cache Recovery Tool

Provide Supported Workspace Cache Recovery Tool

In Windchill PDMLink 10.2 there are currently two unmet needs related to recovering data in any situation where a CAD user is no longer available (long term illness, termination of employment, etc.):

  1. The ability to Check In locally modified files that have been saved or uploaded by that user; this is covered by Product Idea 2497, Access other users workspace. This capability would be needed when it is known or reasonably certain that the locally modified files contain changes that should be kept.
  2. The ability to effectively recover locally modified files that have been saved or uploaded by the user from the Workspace cache on the user's computer. This capability would be needed when it is not known whether the locally modified files contain changes that should be kept.

This Product Idea request is to provide a PTC supported tool for the second scenario, that would allow effective recovery of locally modified CAD files from the Workspace cache on the user's computer.

Why couldn't PTC do this when Ron Thellen could?

I do appreciate and have often used Ron Thellen's application for recovery, most recently for some users who did not pay attention to multiple announcements about what was going to happen to their local cache content during the 10.1 to 10.2 upgrade.

You know who else like and uses Ron's recovery tool?  PTC.  When I have cache issues such as disappearing data, they recommend his tool for recovery.  Let me reiterate.  Our PLATINUM level tech support points me to a third party user developed tool to fix their problem.  Of course I'd already done that, but that is beside the point.
