Provide "Latest Version" in Query Builder

Provide "Latest Version" in Query Builder

Please provide a "Latest Version" or "Latest Revision" boolean to check against for any versioned and iterated object type in the Report Managent Query Builder.

This seems to show up a few times as questions, but I could not find a product idea.

Here Here!   There is NO reason that you should have to follow a convoluted Sub-select process for accessing the latest revision.

Latest Iteration = 1 is already supported.

I think what you are asking for is the Latest Revision support which as Marc notes today requires a Sub-select.  The combination of Latest Revision and Latest Iteration would give Latest Version, where is if you use just Latest Iteration you can get all revisions at their latest iteration.  The combination would give you the most flexibility in your reporting.

Flexibility is useful, but our most common use case is that we want the latest version of an object. I am seldom interested in the history of a complete list of objects i. e. the state of all previous revisions.

Jeff, I agree that it is already supported, but the steps and process to apply it is very painful.  There needs to be a checkbox type selection or drop down menu like add to workspace configuration where we can easily select "latest only".  The population of reports that utilizes latest for me is about 100%!  I'm sure most customer's want to latest version.  I easily wasted 10 hours in the report creation manipulating with trial and error to get latest to show up in the tables for all the reports below.  I hear that the WC11 improves reporting so maybe they eliminated the steps needed to make the sub-select functions apply.

There is a little bit of technical justification why getting the latest Iteration is straight forward but getting the latest Revision is not.  Users are free to configure Revision series (general called Version series) any way they like, such that for example they include 1, 2, 3... -, A, B...AA,, AB along with skipped letters, etc.  So, the system has to have this registered to know that these are the correct sequence.

But - Maybe PTC could easily add some function that could be easily selected in the report UI that performs the sub select.  Because the sub-select is so tricky, I have report templates made for every object type (including change objects, which can be Revision controlled if a preference is set) that includes the sub-select, and always create reports using Save As from these.  Also, I've asked tech support many times what is the correct procedure to get Latest Revision and have no less than 3 separate answers (all of which work).  There is no standard that they pull from and provide.  I don't believe that Latest Revision is documented in the Help anywhere.

So - A very common need, and a great deal of user confusion and frustration.  Likely could be solved easily and quickly, resulting in a much happier admin user community.

@JeffZemsky Can you comment on this?

Detailed comment above.

Agree w/others - should be able to just select, not create a complex sub-select.
