Hi, this is Ghanesh, Senior BA Staff in Engg IT team in Seagate Technology Singapore implementing PTC Windchill PLM by migrating from Siemens Teamcenter Enterprise.
Windchill Query Builder QML Reports are quick to develop and faster to execute, and much reliable compared to Cognos reports. However, QML reports lack certain basic functions and are the improvement points based on user expectations who regularly consume large data for their everyday decision making.
When IT develops QML reports exposes them to end-users, end-users usually create views or variations and saves the report using the Saved Reports feature. Usually, end-users want to see the data in a particular format for easy readability and hence they create their own formats by rearranging columns, grouping data, and adds charts. While charts are getting saved, these QML report formattings are neither saved nor downloadable via Excel or PDF or other formats.
Only charts are saved but charts are accessible only when reports are run from Windchill report folders. The charts are not available in executed reports of Saved Reports from Data Monitor schedules.
Users consuming large data at regular intervals will get better PTC Windchill Experience when they don't need to spend time redoing the same formatting every time they receive the report is eliminated. This saves time and greatly improves business efficiency.
In essence, users should be able to directly download the formatted QML report with charts and formats in WYSIWYG method via HTML or EXCEL or PDF or should be able to directly embed the executed reports in external dashboards so Windchill QML Report charts are directly shown in their everyday dashboards.
