Query Builder Report: PTC have to share what TS do about it with their custumer

Query Builder Report: PTC have to share what TS do about it with their custumer

I read every day Community and exploder from quite a long time.

From users it's growing request to have report (query builder or SQL) from other users or from TS.

In the mail I received today from TS there is three of this type of request as you can see below

Query Builder report of affected end item parts of change requests in Windchill PDMLink

https://support.ptc.com/appserver/cs/view/case_solution.jsp?n=CS149307&lang=en

Query builder report of all the assignees of Change Notice/Change Activity in Windchill

https://support.ptc.com/appserver/cs/view/case_solution.jsp?n=CS179409&lang=en

How to generate a report listing Change Notice task Comments in Windchill PDMLink

https://support.ptc.com/appserver/cs/view/case_solution.jsp?n=CS167392&lang=en

So what I would like is asking PTC to share report also here in the Community, as done for Mathcad http://communities.ptc.com/docs/DOC-3621

Maybe using this group http://communities.ptc.com/groups/reporting?view=overview

Another request is to include all of them in Windchill to avoid user to reinvent the wheel.

PTC wouldn't be the right ones tomake a list of report templates, but as a community, we could do it.  Then some of the PTC guys might add some of their own.

There is no magic to query builders.  It just gives a user interface to make SQL joins with some cool features that let you use the awkward Query Builder functions instead of code, if you want them.  The trick is knowing the object model well enough to either know or guess the right relationships to get what you are looking for.

There must be a way for us to do that here, and I KNOW that a guy like Mike Lockwood would love to kick it off with some of his own favorites.  I can add some of ours too.  In fact, I added one recently that was pretty cool in some of its advanced features, but wasn't particularly useful to most users:  http://communities.ptc.com/docs/DOC-6262 .

Anyone have an idea on how to get that started on this forum?  Would it be a Document?  Or an Idea?  Or what is a good way to create a library of query builder stuff complete with XML to download with pictures and text to explain the queries, like the one I posted, above, and like the ones this poster referred to.

Al, I think we can use Reporting Group, here in the Community, to share things.

If you join the group, you can share documents, video and other things.

In the exploder Mike said that he's retiring and wants to know if there are people interested in what he did in years of query builder work and how to share his treasure with other users.

So we have to wait for Mike's answer about this idea and see what can happen in the future.

Thank you.  I think you are right.  I just joined the Reportoing group.  For the original poster, I would recommend joining that group as well, and if you have anything in particular you are intested in seeing, then either search that group, and/or post a request for someone to give an example.

I'm in touch with Bjoern Saupp‌ of PTC's TS.

Below you can read part of the mail he send to me.

"Additionally I will try to make Product Management aware of the document that you created. By this it might be possible that some of the reports created will get access to the product and on the other hand the product manager gets firsthand information from users about their needs.

I also want to make you aware that I am preparing a TS article about Report Management and will try to collect information to improve the usability of the Query Builder."

Because of what he wrote I'm asking all of you to vote up this idea.

Thanks
