Recent document used by DTI

Recent document used by DTI

When office documents are opened through Office integration, currently they will not show up under "Recent Documents" from file menu inside Office applications. It would be beneficial if these documents also show up in the “recent document” list, so that often used documents can be more easily accessed.

Since these documents are being stored in Windchill, by adding them to the Recently Used list, do you want Office to download and open the document from Windchill directly from the Recently Used list? That is the only way to be sure that you are getting the latest copy of the file.

My understanding of the current DTI functionality is that it downloads the document to a temporary location and then opens the file from there. Using this location for the Recently Used entry is not acceptable. Since Scott is on board here, do you know if the Office API will allow the Recently Used list to add (and retrieve) an entry from inside Windchill?

Yes, exactly.

The team is looking into it. Somehow we missed this capability of Office altogether. We can definitely save links to the files in the local cache and Windchill 10.2 has new features in DTI to get the current version from the server or pull the latest from the server. It will take some time to determine whether or not we can "deep link" back to the Windchill document.
