Rename action have a option to propagate or not to other versions.

Rename action have a option to propagate or not to other versions.

The need:

The user need that the same WTDocument on different versions have different names, but when I use the rename option all the revisions & iterations of this document are renamed.

The enhancement request is:

- That the rename action has a option to propagate or not the rename action to another versions (revisions & iterations).

the name is Master attribute. So it is common to all versions.

No ability do modify it only on specific version

need to create an IBA or custom attribute for that

I voted down, because I don't like the idea that the 'Name' can be changed over the versions.    If you want something that may change over the versions, why don't you use the title or your own attribute.

As stated above the name is tied to the master of the Document.  To clarify - the master contains a set of base information that is separate from the document versions that can contain version specific information.  Name and Number are some examples of master attributes that are considered key to the object identification.

Here is a section from the configuration management guide that covers Parts, but the pattern is the same for Docs, CAD, etc.

Common part information is the same for every version. It describes the form, fit, and function that the part performs in any assembly where it is used. The database object that stores common part information is sometimes referred to as the part master.

A part is uniquely identified by the Number attribute; no other part can have the same part number. The format of your part numbers is different from any other company. Windchill provides the ability to define your unique numbering scheme in your system.

For more information about defining object numbering schemes, see Object Numbering.

Other common part attributes include:

  • Name
  • Default Trace Code
  • Default Unit

You can see the common part attributes in the Edit Common Attributes window.
