Rename : enable preference to set default FileName same as Number

Rename : enable preference to set default FileName same as Number

Implement a preference that enables to specific the default setting for Rename  as FileName same as Number.

Such a preference is available for SaveAs, but not for Rename (?!?).

We are implementing a Windchill system in which the Number and the FileName have the same value.

Having this preference is much more efficient as by default the FileName field does not needs to be filled out, FileName will get the same as Number.

Please note that there is an option during Rename to manually specific FileName same as Number, but it is not the default and we cannot specifiy it as default as there is no setting or preference.

Fully Agree.

This is number one request from every customer I implement when the customer is using manual numbering.  And it is available in Save As.

It is tedious for users to Copy/Paste between the two windows or trach them use the existing functionality when Save-As has been pre-configured with a Preference.

Create the Inherit filename from number that exist for Save-As;  Add them to Operation/Rename.  (

As it is existing functionality(just not a preference), at minimum make a preference internally and give to Technical Support;  Allow Companies to request and let us install manually,  CS articles such as CS39758 state does not exist but this must be a simple customization.

@SteveShaw,

Can you clarify how you get a row in the table back to 'unchanged' once these preferences are enabled?

Preference settings:

Initial (default) values during rename operation:

Attempt to keep name and filename unchanged:

Completing the rename operation shows that the two 'Unchanged' radio buttons selected in the previous step were actually ignored.

Apparently enabling this preference prevents the ability to leave them unchanged anymore.  Is this intentional?
