Currently PTC has the ability to enforce a company's numbering policy during creation, rename, and save as. However, the number standards critical to a companies operation are not enforced when using auto-associate. For example, we restrict the _ from our part numbers. We use _ in our cad to represent hoses and items you can't distort using the same file name. When our users create the entire BOM by selecting all in their workspace and use auto-associate it will generate garbage numbers which may go to ERP and definitely get tied into the BOM making the garbage number very difficult to remove. We could debate the carelessness but that is why we use automated tools to prevent this. And it works everywhere except Auto-associate. This is a problem that needs urgent resolution.
My proposal would be to auto-exclude it from the auto-associate screen so it never gets created. If that is too difficult, at minimum have it not allow the check in.
