Reuse MPMLink Operation

Reuse MPMLink Operation

Servus,

for every duplicated operation in MPMLink is strictly generated unique number. Our users not happy with this behavior much.

Very often we need to duplicate just a few operations from one process plan to the another one and keep the content unchanged. WCH always duplicating all operations under new numbers even everything is the same. It means database is growing up even no reason and users have to handle for example 10x the same operations+documents.

Would be nice to have an option for keeping the same operation number and let users decide if they want to create a new operation with unique ID or just reuse existing one. We see a great advantage to have 1 operation valid for 10 process planes instead of maintaining 10 the same operations...

We have the same requirement to reuse Operation. In our case, R&D take the ownership to maintain the design view Process Plan with the key operations focus on technical perspective. and then manufacture engineer to maintain a manufacturing view. One of the key work in the manufacturing view is assigning work area, our client stick on putting the work area in the first level of the Process Plan as an operation then move the operations from R&D to its down level. because our MPMLink does not support reuse Operation, so move means duplicate, and unfortunately we have to duplicate all the down level operations.

We are looking forwards so much to be able to reuse the operation under different operation, process plan and sequence.

If you haven't seen yet, MPMLink now offers Standard Procedures.  These objects are reusable in any Process Plan.  This allows you to create a Standard Process Plan that has one or more operations.  You can then insert this as an operation into any process plan.

At Solar we have an MES integration that also can read the Standard Procedure and link to the Standard Operations that are in the MES tool.  So we can now maintain a standard list of procedures that are reusable across manufacturing.
