Searching Products / Libraries

Searching Products / Libraries

Currently we have our Physical Products separated in to Products that share the same name (all data for the MB2 chassis is in the MB2 product).  We have users that will keyword search for MB2 to find layouts (our layouts are named MB2-164-.......).  What the system returns is all documents that have MB2 somewhere in the file, which is expected, what is not expected is that the system also returns ALL objects that are in that Product of the same name.  It will return a CAD file that is called TEST.asm, even though the only link to MB2 is that it's in the product.  My idea is there should be a way to disable this type of functionality via a preference.  Most of our Products contain tens of thousands of objects and it makes the search useless.

Is this specific to SOLR?

Wouldn't putting MB2-164-* in the search function only find those layouts? Anything that doesn't have that exact alphanumeric sequence at the very beginning of its Number, Name or Description likely wouldn't be shown on the search even if All Types is the main filter.

Yes searching for mb2-164 will drastically reduce the returns....but users will just enter MB2, which should return many items BUT not thousands.

You are getting all off these results because MB2 is in the file path. Easiest thing to do would be to tell your users they have to be just a little bit more specific with their searches.

You did bring up a good point, so I quickly looked for a way to exclude file path from the search fields, but didn't see it. Hopefully someone else can chime in on how to remove that, as I know it would be beneficial to us, and probably a lot of other companies.

Could you also combine that with additional filters in Advanced Search to restrict which object type(s) it returns?

Please add option to exclude file path from the search.
