Setting to disable the "Replace Content"

Setting to disable the "Replace Content"

In the Windchill Desktop Integration if you drop a file on top of another document, then the content will be replaced. This is not how Windows File Explorer works and it is frequent cause of problem for the Windchill DTI users. Therefore we would request an enhancement that will give us an option to disable this feature in preferences.

Ah, I could see how that could be potentially problematic to users unfamiliar with Windchill and the Windows Explorer integration. There is a site preference to disable Replace Content. I am testing it now to see how it impacts the Windows Explorer integration.

Yes, Windchill honors all the application settings, so if you disable Replace Content in the browser interface, it will disable it in the Windows Explorer interface. I realize this is a system wide shut off for Replace Content and you only asked for a Windows Explorer shut off. Is this an acceptable solution, or would you still like to have a single Windows Explorer shut off. If so, how would you like to achieve that; user preference, org/site preference, dti preference, etc?

Hi Scott

Thank you for your fast investigation.

I am working together with Javid on this.

I don't think this is a problem for Creo users, they do not see this Replace Content anyway.

We will try and disable it and see how it works.

When you disable the Replace Content action in the Site Preferences, this is what happens in Windows Explorer. The Drag-n-Drop Replace Content action is not allowed. If the document is dropped in the "white space", it will be checked in as a new iteration of the source document.
