Subcontract enhancement - Ability to define context and location

stakeholders: the business teams that will use the modules (in this case MPMLink) that we are configuring

Windchill 12.1.1.0

AS IS:

the Subcontracted views are automatically stored in the same context of the views they are subcontracted from. Due to the nature of the functionality - which is to create and assign the ownership of a portion of the MBOM structure to another organization - we are forced to move the newly created views to the right context/location. This raises two problems:

  • the move can be performed by an admin only
  • by default the system does not allow to move specific view versions across containers

 

Request/Idea:

To provide the Subcontracting action page with the Context and Location fields, so that they can be defined during the creation (same as Create new downstream branch/part). 

4. What is the use case for your organization?
The sites "A" and "B" are 2 different companies belonging to the same multinational corporation. The site/company "A" is the owner of the product (let's say a tractor). The tractor's MBOM is stored in the product/context "A_Tractor". A portion of that tractor - let's say the cabin - is manufatured by the site "B". So, the site "A" defines the content that has to be delivered by the Site "B".

Site "A" subcontracts the cabin portion to the B's manufacturing view. The B's manufacturing team has view access to the A_Tractor context but it's missing the edit permission. B's team is only allowed to work in the "B_Cabin" context. 

5. What business value would your suggestion represent for your organization?
This improvement will allow the business team to be independent from windchill admins people to do their work.
