Support ALL Microsoft Project Constraint Types in ProjectLink PLAN

Support ALL Microsoft Project Constraint Types in ProjectLink PLAN

We are using Windchill 10.0 M040 .The plan in ProjectLink(PJM) ONLY support two time-resctrictions:[as soon as possible] and [start no earlier than],this doesn't satisfy real application and influence our project management seriously .

We always edit plan in Microsoft Project (it's more convenient and efficient than editing in PJM Plan), then upload the plan file to PJM plan module and share it to group members  ,the problem is there are a lot of errors or warings when uploading because of PJM plan doesn't support all time-resctrictions in Microsoft Project .Although we import the file successfully sometimes, the time of actives in plan has always been changed by the PJM system automaticcally due to the ONLY two time-resctrictions.

As a management tool of project ,the plan funciton is the most important module,so we stronlgy suggest PTC company could improve the PJM plan to support all time-resctrictions in Microsoft Project .

Agreed!  I just went through the effort of decimating an existing MSProject Plan in an attempt to Import the plan into a Project.  Still no success Importing and the schedule was changed as a result.

I'm not sure how the Project Managers will feel about losing the predecessor/successor constraints, elapsed days, baselines and percent lead/lag.  It would be a shame if this ends up being a barrier to adoption.

Xiao, sounds like you would like to have full support for all Constraint Types from Microsoft Project available in Windchill. I changed the title of your idea to match this request so others can find it and hopefully support you on this request.

Microsoft currently offers the following Constratint Types. Are you actively using all these constraint types in your plans or are there specific ones you feel are more important?

  • As Late As Possible (default in a project scheduled from the finish date)
  • As Soon As Possible (default in a project scheduled from the start date)
  • Finish No Earlier Than
  • Finish No Later Than
  • Must Start On
  • Must Finish On
  • Start No Earlier Than
  • Start No Later Than

Windchill 10.2 currently supports (4) of these Constraint Types

  • As Late As Possible (default in a project scheduled from the finish date)
  • As Soon As Possible (default in a project scheduled from the start date)
  • Must Finish On
  • Start No Earlier Than

Using WC 10.2 M010

I was getting an Error stating that "As Late As Possible" was not supported.  Project was able to import when I changed As Late As Possible constraints to As Soon As Possible

Actively using

  • Finish No Earlier Than
  • Finish No Later Than

Also using Percentage Lead/Lag for progress type Milestones.

We are having an issue at our company because a Must Finish On constraint is needed on the critical path items so the timing cannot be shifted by anyone from changing an activity.  We are looking for  Must start on, start no later than, finish no later than and abilility to account for Holidays and Weekends.
