Support Change Proposals / Concepts in Windchill

Many customers need to define different change proposals and even build prototypes before they can decide what to implement in production. The data generated in the change proposal shall not be mixed up with current data. A sandbox area is needed. When a Change Proposal is accepted, it shall be possible to add the data to a ECN task, because most of the change is already done. Same use case is valid for Concept design. Please see attached ppt.

How does your idea differ from ProjectLink?

At a glance it seems this is what ProjectLink provides. Someone could have one or more "projects" that alter CAD Docs in different ways, overseen by the same group that then chooses one of the proposals, which then gets put through a real Change Notice/Change Activity. The other "projects" get declined/cancelled.

Thanks for your comment. Yes, project link offer most of the functionality. According to my view, ProjectLink need to be closer integrated with the ECN process, so you can remain traceabillity between ECR and the project. We have shown that you can share a ECR to a project, but Approve/Reject of the proposals shall be within the CM process. Think whats needed is a better integration between Change Management and Projects as it it today.

Per - in 10.0 we already support an improved branching methodology with Projectlink to manage these alternative designs.  In the future we are looking at bringing back the Change Investigation to capture some of this and could be aligned to this work.  Today you can certainly create a soft type of CN to capture this effort though.

Great news. Have you discussed to do the change investigation object as a sandbox (Similar to projectLink functionality)? Customers like to separate the proposal data from PDMLink data until it has been approved as the solution.
