Support SLDDRT files for SolidWorks templates.

Support SLDDRT files for SolidWorks templates.

The SLDDRT template format is used by SolidWorks as the format for a new blank sheet of paper.  For instance, when our users add new sheets to a drawing they will select the SLDDRT format for the basic page layout.

Currently Windchill recognizes and supports the use of the PRTDOT, ASMDOT, and DRWDOT, primarily (I imagine) because these can be assigned as the default templates for new parts, assemblies, and drawings.  Can we not also have Windchill recognize the SLDDRT as a SolidWorks file so it can be added to a workspace and used/managed in the same manner?

Would be useful to parallel functionality in Creo Parametric for organizations with both CAD applications to have consistency in their processes.

Drawing templates is used for new drawings. Sheet format is updating existing drawings to new changes. Both are required to support SolidWorks in the Windchill environment.

This would be an enhancement that I feel is beneficial as users will no longer have to maintain the sheet format outside of the Windchill system allowing for integration at multiple facility sites access to the same information in one location.

@PTCModerator any updates on this topic?  In addition to the SLDDRT files mentioned above, additional file types are needed.  BOM Tables (SLDBOMTBT), Weldment Cut Lists (SLDWLDTBT), etc.  Our organization is a dual-CAD environment that leverages outside contractors for CAD design.  We are leveraging Windchill ExtraNet to work with said contractors but are limited in our capabilities since Windchill doesn't recognize these additional critical file types.

So after almost 9 years, do we have any updates, what's the plan here? @PTCModerator

No specific update here, I'm afraid.

For a larger context, I invite you to check out this topic where PTC executives explain product managers' approach to customer ideas and input for product roadmaps.

In addition to the SLDDRT files and other filetypes mentioned above, additional file types are needed.
Block files (SLDBLK), Forming Tools (SLDFTP), ...

Either, PTC should expand the supported filetypes to match all filetypes generated by Solidworks. Or a more flexible approach should be possible where an administrator can add and define possbile filetypes for the Workgroup manager to accept.
Kind of like defining Document Types for the Windchill commonspace.

I concur with all of the above.
