Uncheck reuse modified workspace content should also work in Windchill 10.2

Uncheck reuse modified workspace content should also work in Windchill 10.2

If you search a CAD model in the commonspace and add the result to the workspace you can check or uncheck the option "reuse modified workspace content" and it works the same as in windchill 10.0

If you select a model in the workspace, click the green + (add to workspace) then the same dialog opens. But uncheck the option "reuse modified workspace content" does not work.

PTC says "works as specified".

Is a bugfix now a "prduct idea"?? A switch with no effects is a switch with no effects is a switch with no effects....

Did you escalate the case?

Perhaps Lori Sood could have a look at this case?

No, I did not. PTC Support told me that this is a purposed function.

This means that the product management of PTC wrote a specification like this:

"We don't want to have the same functionality and behavior of the same function if you start the dialog on various ways. And it is very important, that Windchill 10.2 does not contain the same functionallity, windchill 10.0 has."

Check out article CS172371

I have set the preference so the users do not have the check this every time. From the article:

Set the Preference Display> Configuration Specification> Apply Configuration Specification to the originally selected object to yes to enable the check box for the collector so that users do not have to check it manually each time

@dlorenz and @mgeier,

I am seeing this on WC11.  I agree that this is a bug and absolutely NOT working to spec for the following reasons:

  1. If you uncheck "Reuse modified workspace content", it should no longer use the workspace content and actually replace it with what is in Common Space.
  2. If you hover your mouse over the green "Add" plus sign the tooltip says "Re-add existing object(s) in the workspace to update contents".  It does not re-add anything, nor does it seem to update anything.
  3. If you click on the Advanced tab you can see unchecking Reuse actually does change the objects from using the reuse (recycle symbol) to the download symbol.  You can manually set all objects to download from CS.  This fails to update the WS content as well.

This is clearly contradictions to the "intended functionality" claim and I am going to follow up with opening another case.

Ok, I went to log a case and they listed this problem (CS172371) and provided the workaround to start by unchecking "Reuse modified workspace content", then open the filter an check "Apply to initially selected objects".  However that doesn't work for me.  But I did find that if I open the filter and say "Latest", then within that dialog check "Apply to initially selected objects".  This seems pretty ridiculous.

The very good news, though, is that they did provide a preference to control this, and this works very well!

Display > Configuration Specification > Apply Configuration Specification to the originally selected object to yes to enable by default for every add to workspace operation.

Changing this preference actually makes unchecking that check box do what it says.  Since they provided an option to control whether this works or not, I don't think we need them to do anything else (other than please don't take away this preference control!).  I am leaving my vote, just so they say there is an interesting in keeping this option.
