Viewable Publishing - add object number into log file so you can estimate % complete

1. Describe your environment: What is your industry? What is your role in your organization? Describe your stakeholders.
Automotive supplier, PDM manager, all WT support staff and end users

2. What version of Windchill are you currently running?

v12.0.1.3

3. Describe the problem you are trying to solve. Please include detailed documentation such as screenshots, images or video.

When publishing view-ables, the publishing log file contains the number of files transferred:

This "Number of Files Transferred" is useful as it gives a measure of the size of the job.

Then for each file, the log file shows:

Update the log file entry for each file to include "<date/time stamp> File x/<number of files to process>" . Examples:

  • <date/time stamp> File 33/276, Catia5_Access
  • <date/time stamp> File: 33/276, Catia5_Read
  • <date/time stamp> File: 33/276, Catia5_Access

and

  • <date/time stamp> File 270/276, Catia5_Access
  • <date/time stamp> File: 270/276, Catia5_Read
  • <date/time stamp> File: 270/276, Catia5_Access

While not perfect, this would give end users & support a good understanding of the publishing process completeness.

4. What is the use case for your organization?

Should help end users and support understand how complete the publishing job is.

5. What business value would your suggestion represent for your organization?
Difficult to estimate, definitely would help people understand how complete their job is and helps support answer questions about large jobs being processed.
