Where Used Table showing if object is latest or not

Where Used Table showing if object is latest or not

In PDMLink 9.1, the where used table is really useful however, I believe an important feature is missing.

The table does not show if the object listed is the actual latest version or not. Additionally knowing the life cycle state of the latest version using the object would be interesting too.

When doing impact analyses, we often waste time because we cannot see quickly enough if Object A is used (live used) in Object B. Object A could have been used in an old version of Object B which is now obsolete and therefore does not count anymore in the Change Process.

The table could simply be enhanced by adding a column showing Latest Version (yes/No)

This could be further enhanced by letting the user have the possibility to add to workspace all or part of the object listed in the Where Used table

All Objects

All Objects at first level

All Objects only latest version (so in my above example Object B will not be added to the workspace)

All Objects at first level only latest version.

I know this would be very useful in my company and trust based on discussions with others that they face the same issue.

Hopefully, PTC will now say, they have already taken care of it, and all this is available in PDMLink 10 or 10.1

Thanks

Hi Tom

I know.  I keep editing the HTML, but the stupid interface keeps altering the URL.  Ah!

Just copy and paste the text into the browser yourself.

Chris,

I assume this references CAD Docs.

Part Where Used has supported this since 9.x

Reference idea #1057 for voting

Where Used Report - is it the latest?

NOTE - the tool does not seem to properly insert HTML links - however if you add them with the Insert Link action in the tool bar they will work correctly.

Thanks all for your comments and sorry for the duplication.

Parts has the same problem in the Where Used table. it does not tell you if it is the latest version or not.

Despite several duplication over the year I have not seen PTC reply. Has it been implemented, is it going to be implemented ?

Thanks

Chris,

The Part Where used table has support views that show all or Latest for some time.  Here are some 9.1 screenshots

Hi  thanks Jeffrey

I will need to double check but this does not necessary give the expected results as Latest is latest iteration for the revision and not necessarely latest of all ie version.?

Also, the select and add to workspace is not available. therefore slowing down the change process.

Thanks anyway.

PTC have plenty info/suggestion of improvements around that topic. Their call

Nope.  Just tried to edit the message.  Did the "insert link" button.  Links are still messed up.

Tom,

Use the All Content or Browse History tab, rather then the hyperlink entry page.

Chris,

To add some detail for the Part Where Used - it looks at the usage link relationship between the part and its parent and navigates.  It only looks for the latest iteration on a revision for each revision.  The All Revisions view will return all latest Revisions where there is that usage link.  The Latest just the Latest revision, latest iteration result.

Per your other question - on the CAD Where Used we do support Add to Workspace.  For the Part Where Used we do not support that, but we do allow Copy from the table (Right click).  With this the user can Copy/Paste to Check out to add the workspace (I know - not quite as elegant)

Hi Jeff

thanks for the technical notes. Much appreciated. This idea is turning into a technical support !!!

Also helped a few people testing their URL. So glad it is helping many people in various areas.

I would like to summarize.

in 10.  Where Used for WTpart does support Latest All Revisions but not add to workspace

WHere Used for EPM (CAD) does support add to workspace but not Latest, All Revisions.

am I correct ? if so, without sounding criticising, is that not a but inconsistent or is there a very valid reason have I not yet understood ?
