Windchill Explorer View for Mac Users

Windchill Explorer View for Mac Users

The increasing use of Mac at the workplace by senior executives and key decision makers is limiting the use of Windchill as we do not have an explorer view or an app for Mac Users.

This is critical for adoption and roll-out to users who are casual users of Windchill.

Windchill Desktop Integration is not supported for MacOS, only Windows. In Windows, there are two primary integrations; Microsoft Office and Windows Explorer. When considering MacOS, what is the more prevalent use case for you? Thinking about the overall application, are you more interested in a Windows Explorer "like" integration or would you like a more intuitive, capable and functional solution built right into the web interface?

At Windchill 10.2 M030, PTC has enabled drag-n-drop document create and update along with drag-n-drop create at the folder browser level. These are small steps forward to making Windchill more effective for document management, but clearly not the only capabilities required. Personally, I would like to see more development in the core web interface to make Windchill work like other, modern, web-based document management systems.

Hi Scott,

Thanks for your comment. The users are really excited about the Windows Explorer like integration. If we can get something similar for Mac that would really help.

I haven't looked at 10.2 M030, but the major challenge is that every browser behaves differently. Recently Chrome stopped supporting npapi plugin that prevented users from accessing Creo View embedded into the browser. Although the issue is Chrome related, Windchill becomes the issue as a user is unable to access Creo View. It is also difficult to enforce standardization of a web browser on personal machines and unless Windchill can plan for all changes future and current planned for all types of web browsers (Safari, Chrome, Firefox, IE) then it would be difficult to roll it as a standard offering.
