Windchill Forced Update

Windchill Forced Update

Dear PTC,

please add the function "Forced Update" to Windchill Workspace. A function that actually updates from Commonspace to Workspace. A clear logic overwrite function from Commonspace to Workspace. Like it was in Intralink.

Please do not just suggest, to use "Add to Workspace" or to change settings or whatever. Just implement a "Forced Update" function to Windchill Workspace. Please do it.

The more details and context you give to document your idea, the better. Think about ways to educate and convince other Community members to support your idea and present your case to the product management team for consideration.

This must be added with an option to enable or disable it in preferences. Auto updates may not be practical in all instances.

@BenLoosli, I think they are just asking for a command or button, not some automatic behind-the-scenes behavior.

The workspace already has a File - Update button and an Update button in the menu bar.

I'm NOT asking for an Automatic update. When Windchill has an button that say Update, it should also update = retrieve update from what is in Commonspace and write it to the WS. Not make this "half-hearted" attempt.
Current Update Button does not make a forced update. F.ex. if a component has status modified in WS, current update button does not make an update. Instead you need to use Add to Workspace, then in the Event Manager click on the "First Aid" icon to receive the update to the WS.

Since PTC apparantly doesn't want to use current Update button as an update button, I'm asking to add a new button Forced Update.

(For the record: I have been working with PTC's products since 1997)

Instead of all the administration you suggest me to fill out, please look in to a solution instead.

For someone who has been using PTC products for 25 years, you should know that there will be no solution, let alone a suggested solution within the next 2 weeks. IF PTC decides to act on this suggestion, my guess it would be Windchill 14/Creo 10 before it reaches the release cycle.

 

The details are necessary to so PTC (and other users) can fully understand your requirements and the impact it has on your users. Everyone who submits a suggestion to PTC needs to utilize the suggested input form.

Since the introduction of Windchill, PTC has been asked to make this improvement by the users. It's a generic/general request regarding Windchill WS.

The details are not necessary to understand the idea nor the solution. No relevance to know my role, company, organization, stakeholders etc.

Regardless of how good or logical an idea may be, PTC has decided that if someone is not willing to add personal information and business justification to the product idea within two weeks, the idea will be cancelled.  Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any flexibility on this new requirement.

PTC has stated that you need to fill in the information that was posted by OlivierLP as the first reply to your request. Olivier IS the PTC person responsible for making sure that the guidelines established for submitting a request are followed. If you don't provide the required information in 2 weeks from the original posting, the request will be marked as cancelled and no further action will be taken, which R&D will never see the idea.
