Windchill WorkGroup Manager opening other file types from Workspace

We would like to be able to open other files other than what the WGM is specifically for from the workspace.  For example, when assembling a file (Creo) in Inventor it will only allow you to see Inventor files in the workspace.  Once you are out of the Workspace it will allow you to see them.  All these files exist in Windchill so they will added to the Workspace and not retrieved from the hard drive.

With Inventor off windchill (standalone) you can insert a Creo file into an Inventor assembly.

Unfortunately Inventor creates a native file (.ipt) where there is an associative link with the Creo file (.prt)
Unfortunately it does not work like Creo with the Unite technology that directly manages the .ipt file

This is not possible with Windchill-related Inventor.
With Inventor and the WGM, the .prt files are not visible in the workspace and therefore not accessible.
Therefore the WGM does not actually allow this type of associative link with the .prt file
