Workspace Copy/Paste Functionality for multiselect

Based on archive status of old idea I would like to rise hand to implement it.

Original idea Workspace-Copy-Paste-Functionality 

It would be beneficial to our user base if the workspace table supported copy/paste functionality similar to all other tables in Windchill.

 

This feature/enhancement would allow users to copy objects into a workspace from other areas of Windchill after the user has found or come across what they need.  Our users also want to be able to copy the work they have completed in a workspace to the resulting objects in a change task and others places in the Windchill.  Additionally, they want the ability to copy objects from one workspace to another if necessary/desired.

 

PS: Copy means add to the Windchill Clipboard

At the moment there is only the way to

  • select all the objects in the workspace,
  • select add to change task
  • select the CN (or a dummy CN)
  • all the objects are being added as affected objects
  • Select all objects and click copy
  • cancel the Wizard

It's also not clear for me, why this important feature is missing.

We don't merge the newer ideas with the ones that are already archived. 

What would be useful to the product management team would be to have  more info about the context and business value. just as a reminder, let me bring the set of questions from the form I am assuming most of you saw already.

Is that really important? Does the product management team only support big companies with the "right" product? My role is IT-inhouse consultant for PDM

Windchill 11.1 / Creo 4.0. Planned Uprgade to WNC12 / Creo 8

Missing Copy/Paste functionallity fo WNC objects between input masks

Work faster and more efficiently than with "plus" icon and search


5. What business value would your suggestion represent for your organization?

No need for notes? The advantage of copy and past should be known since 1985 and is standard in all current It systems.

I don't understand why PTC merge duplicate ideas and not duplicate archived ideas. What is the reason ?

PTC Partner so many types of industry. Machinery, Automotive, Defense,  Press technology, Medical equipment and so on

Each customer has different version. Windchill from 11.0 - 12.0.2.0 Creo from 4.0 to 8.0

Adding selected objects from Workspace

- to Baselines (Checkin is not enough)

- to the Packages 

- to different object table then Change Task (review, sub ChangeRequest that is used for different purpose)...

- to a promotion request (user needs to promote more objects not only the check-ining one)

4. What is the use case for your organization?

in the third paragraph

5. What business value would your suggestion represent for your organization?

Save user's time (time is money) and their mental health especially if they use workarounds all the time. Classic question is why is it not simple and straight?

Thank you @HelesicPetr as well as @UB_3997706 for the additional info. Based on this, we are acknowledging it as the Community management team. This is not a commitment from the Product team. Other users may comment and vote your idea up.

 

@HelesicPetr  We typically merge "live" ideas that are duplicate. But when an idea is already archived in application of the archiving policy merging a new idea with a archived one would mean "resurrect" an idea that has already failed to gather votes. On a large scale, this could negate the very purpose of why we periodically archive some ideas. I should add that when the Community management team archives an new idea for lack of documentation or an older one that insufficient votes, it is not a statement about the merit of these ideas. It is simply the application of a stated policy.
