Would like the ability to force users to create a document from template

Would like the ability to force users to create a document from template

Our customers have a requirement to force users to create certain (WTDocuments) documents from template using the OOTB "Create from Template" capabilities.

Herman Haasbroek‌, can you share more details about how you would like to enforce this? Are you looking to block the New Document option and only allow the New Document from Template option? Is this a container specific configuration? Would it be feasible to expand the New flyout menu and include the specific Document Templates that should be used? I like the idea, I'm just not clear on the objective and/or implementation.

Hi. We have a customer whom have a specific requirement to enforce standardization. They would like to force their users to use a specific template for certain document types. The users should not be allowed to load a document of these types from their hard-drives. I would see it working along the lines of when I select new document and pick a specific type the only option i have is to use a template. Thus ensuring that a user cannot load a random (non certified format) document as this type. They required this to be environment wide (Org level) but I can see a requirement to make this Product/Library/Project specific. Some complications as I see it:

1. Desktop Integration. When dragging and dropping from Windows explorer the UI that pops up should not have these doc-types listed. When working in MS Office you should not be able to check in a document (created without template) as one of these specific doc-types etc.

2. Edit. When editing WC provides you the option to load a new file from disk thus potentially by passing the template. It may be required, for this to work, to enforce the use of DTI?

Sounds like you can implement a customization to create the initial document, but I'm not clear on an easy way to prevent the end users from uploading a different file as the primary content since this is a core capability of Windchill Document Management.
