This is a great idea. I am visual person, so the idea of color coding things makes sense to me. In the current version of Windchill, you can simplify the table display by creating table views to define the object types, filtering and sorting. Definitely needed for the Tasks table since it supports so many different types of objects.

My users would love this.  My managers would like for it to also color code for their different users.

With colors there are so many other things that could have color codes.  Take lifecycle states for instance.  If you were able to define inside the lifecycle colors for the different states, then you would be able to see in a search easily what states items were at.  Right now you have to try and program this, but it is very cumbersome.

A more universal way this could be implemented is if PTC added color designations to table views. That would allow for multiple color schemes (By completed/active, or by person, or by state...etc) It could be a simplified version of conditional formatting used in excel. It would almost need a "random" option where it just assigns a color to each unique value such as the name example Brian gave above.
