Windchill pdmlink 12.0.2.7 Workgroup Manager 13.0.0.1 SOLIDWORKS 2022 SP05   2. What is the problem? Creo View Adapter does not support the creation of eDrawings (ePRT, eASM, eDRW). Thus we can´t create eDrawings on a PTC Standrad Worker. eDrawings is the most available viewing format in my company as we are useing SOLIDWORKS since about 20 years. In an hybrid environment, where not yet all business units are useing Windchill, we can´t only focus on the Windchill viewing formats. 3. Are you using a workaround? If yes, please describe it.   To create eDrawings we set up an on premise custom worker. From a strategic point of view we would like to focus on a SAAS solution. Operating a custom worker is only a fallback solution because eDrawings is not supportet by Creo View Adapter. 4. What is the use case for your organization? Describe how your idea would work in context or how it would apply to a practical situation.   Business units which are not yet useing Windchill can still use eDrawings for visual studies in R&D and production.   5. What impact does this problem currently have on your organization? (Number of users affected, hours of lost productivity, etc.)   Numbers of affected users ~ 2000   eDarwings need to be created on a custom worker which is quite an effort. CAD worker is limited to the export file types. There are certain cad files that require other export formats to downstream teams, like EMN and IDX for PCB designs. 3. Are you using a workaround? If yes, please describe it. Having a user run a mapkey in Creo that attaches it as a windchill attachment  4. What is the use case for your organization? Describe how your idea would work in context or how it would apply to a practical situation. A mechanical 3D PCB file is promoted and an EMN or IDX file would be generated in addition with the Step file. It would need to know which models are PCB, but that could be done base on a parameter or naming convention. 5. What impact does this problem currently have on your organization? (Number of users affected, hours of lost productivity, etc.) It would ensure the latest data is generated, not rely on a user, save lots of time and help the downstream teams get the information they need. Referenced parts in Inventor assemblies are not excluded while publishing 3. Are you using a workaround? If yes, please describe it. No workaround 4. What is the use case for your organization? Describe how your idea would work in context or how it would apply to a practical situation. Designers have made assemblies using referenced parts, and these referenced parts views should also be available in related drawings, so that manufacturing team has additional information about the part or assembly. However, when same assembly is published, the referenced parts should be excluded. Our technical documentation team who use these Creo View representation for illustration purpose, referenced parts are of not much interest, they have to manually remove referenced parts. Reference: Ticket - 16860699 Article - 18406 It has come to our attention, that when a creo model is saved in a workspace, the cadworker takes no action on it. I'm fine with that... no reason for the user to see the visualization for the 3D they can open in Creo. In addition, that would put an extensive load on the cadworker.  However, if a user renames a new object in their workspace, it will trigger the cadworker to generate visualizations for the old name and the new name. We've had situations where users did bulk renaming in their workspace, and it added a lot of tasks to the cadworker. Granted it was set as a low priority task, but it still took 3 hours.   I would think we would want to be consistent for objects in our workspace (that are not checked in): If we want to see the visualization, then it should be created with every save, not just a rename If we don’t want to see the visualization, then it should not be created with a rename 3. Are you using a workaround? If yes, please describe it. No. The cadworker gets queued up with unnecessary tasks 4. What is the use case for your organization? Describe how your idea would work in context or how it would apply to a practical situation. We would be able to leverage the cadworker we already have more effectively and get other low level tasks generated quicker. 5. What impact does this problem currently have on your organization? (Number of users affected, hours of lost productivity, etc.) It can take hours for the cadworker to complete all of it's tasks, when many of them are for unnecessary jobs, like this. What is the use case for your organization? We have many scenarios where the master rep does not accurately represent the actual product. 2 recent scenarios include: We create products, like cabinets, which can have shelves that can be placed in multiple positions and in some situations, shelves that would not be installed in higher level assemblies. In that case, for higher level assemblies, we'll create a default state with some of the shelves, from the lower assembly, missing (and flex other shelves to the correct position). A user created a master rep of a sheetmetal part as the flat the unbent as the default rep. The higher product assembly had the default rep use the default flat rep 5. What business value would your suggestion represent for your organization? This would allow us to use Windchill thumbnail and certain options within Creo View for some of our products. Annotation (PMI) is highlighted in Windchill visualisation tab when selecting a Part. This feature is not working when assembly is opened in creo view. 3. Are you using a workaround? If yes, please describe it. Not really. Using windchill visualisation is limited compare to creo view.  4. What is the use case for your organization? Describe how your idea would work in context or how it would apply to a practical situation. -Operator select a Part in assembly using creo view -PMI are all displayed, Part is color highlighted in red and associated annotation as well -Operator can easily read the correct annotation   Apply same solution than in Windchill visu tab 5. 1. What version of the software are you running? Windchill PDMlink 12.0.2.1 Creo View Adapters 8.1 2. What is the problem? Creo View Adapter supports only a small part of the actual Creo Paramatric formats during 3D export. We can not quite understand why only a small part is supported. The users are not able to export this files from windchill (like STL) so any time a cad user is needed to export the 3mf data from creo. 5. Some holes of models made by Creo Elements / Direct Modeling and Creo Parametric, published in Creo View, have wrong tassellation: I opened a case: C16570324  The final response was: ... They said that the only feasible option to get right holes in this case would be to change chord height. However, that may affect some other scenarios. You may not have control on size of the hole since that will be driven by functional design requirements. So we can not recommend hole size be changed. However, these are existing limitations of Creo View tessellation. You may submit a product idea and the PMs may review this. For now though this is a working to spec behavior.. Windchill Admin should be able to get a notification when a CAD worker is set to "Fails to Start". The article CS197982 allows to set properties to auto-restart a worker, however it doesn't guarantee that it will restart. Especially in large implementation that rely on heavily on CAD workers it is a necessity to have the ability to get such notifications.   ... View more

Currently there is no support for different Publisher Queue Sets for different CAD Authoring Applications, Therefore different CAD Workers cannot run in parallel which increases the the time to convert data. Long conversion times reduce the acceptance by the customer, who wants to see the result as quick as possible. Since there may be following applications that will use these data. e.g. SAP will use drawings. 4. What is the use case for your organization? More and more customers do not only use Windchill PDMLink to manage there creo parametric data, but also use it as a multi cad data management tool, as to what it is designed. Therefore the multi cad visualization must be enhanced. Additionally more and more consumers migrate there 3'rd party cad data to windchill and want to publish there legacy data after a migration in an acceptable time frame. But if they have multi cad data in there environment it is not possible to publish the data of different cad systems in parallel. 5. What business value would your suggestion represent for your organization? The intention is reduce the implementation effort to the customers and to reduce Windchill complexity. Also increase the throughput of cad conversions to reduce the time until the visualization is available.   6. Suggested solution  Implement different OOTB Queuesets for different CAD Applications. Additionally it would be helpful to not only define the Queueset bay Type but also by Subtypes or even. additional criteria's like drawing, assembly, parts (not WTPart). Hello, up to CreoView Adapters 6.1, when EPMDoc drawing was published to DXF, plain DXF was created for single sheet drawings without shaded views. In CVA 7.0, DXF is always published as ZIP file and log was included. In CVA 7.1, log is no longer included, but DXF is still inside ZIP file, even if there is no reason for it. Please, restore functionality from CVA 6.x, because customers downloading or using DXF, they need additional steps to download ZIP, extract it and then they can use it. Before, they can use DXF directly from Windchill. So, I don't request new functionality, just to restore old, perfectly good one. Thanks. ... View more

Industrial Hydraulic Manufacturing.  I am responsible for CAD admin and PDMLink admin activities. 2. What version of Windchill are you currently running? 12.0.2.3 3. Describe the problem you are trying to solve. Please include detailed documentation such as screenshots, images or video. Many of our users will rename drawings after they check files in to the database.  There is an option to turn republishing on for several activities but not one for Rename only.  When we turned that on for testing it was republishing too many actions. Since the name of the item is shown on the drawing then the published view does not have the latest name shown.  Therefore, when someone looks at the published view it has the wrong name in the title block. 4. What is the use case for your organization? When the drawing gets renamed there should be a setting that can republish on Rename ONLY.  Separate from the other actions it will republish on. Many times our users checks a CAD file in without an assigned number.  This could be for many reasons.  Then at some point they get the assigned number and they rename the files in commonspace. Or sometimes they have a number already assigned but have to rename it because it now needs to be prototype and we have a slightly different naming convention for prototypes.  They may have already been done with the drawing and therefore won't check it back in.  The published view will be wrong. 5. What business value would your suggestion represent for your organization? The user knows they have two options. 1. They can manually delete the existing published view then republish manually. 2. They can make sure they check it out, make a small change and check it back in. This is more work for the user.  We want to make less work, not more.  It is more than likely the user will forget to do one of these and lead to errors and incorrect information.  We need to make sure the published view is correct and done automatically without relying on the user. ... Currently Windchill CADWorker can only use one rcp file to generate illustration sources using post publication. It would be good to allow the user to choose which rcp file he wants to use to perform the post publication. This way the illustration source will only contain the needed elements and the user will be allowed to choose with which quality he exports the 3D. Automotive Industry creating different WTPart Types for different objects like orderable part type, Bill of Material type and top level vehicle type.  My role is to define and setup the attributes and views in Windchill for each of these parts.   2. Please include detailed documentation such as screenshots, images or video. I need the Structure View for each WTPart type to have different attribute columns displayed when looking at the structure. The current issue is that all Part types will display the same view when a user looks at the structure tab.  (user has to know and go switch to the applicable view for that type) 4. What is the use case for your organization? Making Windchill work how it should...show information to the user that the user needs to see.  (I don't need to see truck level attributes in a column if I'm looking at an orderable part structure assembly) 5. What business value would your suggestion represent for your organization?  When I go to a part cad type in windchill, my interface shows tabs that are unique to part cad type...and when I go to assembly cad type, I see tabs on the information page applicable to assembly.  The structure view for each wtpart type should have this same level of "stickyness".    Cost to company: Estimate 1000 users looking at structures in Windchill.  Each user would have to perform the following steps after looking at an orderable part type structure and then going to look at another structure type. (click views, select applicable view, refresh structure again(which can take 10-15 seconds).  This enhancement would eliminate those three steps everytime a user switches to a different part type structure. ... When having multiple workspaces and having to switch constantly between them you can forget where you left new parts unckecked, or modified parts that needed to be checked in. The solution to this is to look inside each of the workspaces to find your parts and it takes too much time.   My proposal is to add a creation date column on "My Workspaces" table, so you can filter and sort your workspaces by date. By sorting, you can have your latest workspaces on the top. And at the bottom, you can see that you have old, outdated, unorganized worspaces that need to be deleted. 4. What is the use case for your organization? When working on daily changes on different products, can produce un-organized workpaces trying to keep up with speed. A quick way to find your latest "non-active" workspace would be to sort by date.   5. What business value would your suggestion represent for your organization? Hello, From WC11.1 M020, an admin can go into a user account and do a limited set of actions (rename, remove, undo checkout, and checkin). We tested this feature and its effectivly working well. But they are some few problems in the interface : When performing checkin from a user WS, no checkin option is proposed (the CAD object is put on the root of the target context), and no message can be seen on the screen as if the action succeded or not   No refresh button on the interface of the user Workspace, so if the admin needs to see new CAD parts, he has to re-enter the workspace of refresh manually with an F5 button.   The CAD part checked-in via this new feature appears as "Modified by" the user himself..., no mention that an admin forced the action. I dont know if that cannot lead to confusion, for example : one good thing with the "set state" feature is that it leaves a mark in the history tab of the CAD object...
