Allow creation of IM Project on locked staging server

Now that we have the ability to create and import groups into a locked staging server, then next requirement is to create IM Projects as well. This would allow us to fully automate the creation of projects and project structure without having to notify an administrator to perform a migration.

Use case: We use the IM Project field to link to our external time and project budget product. When new projects are created in Integrity, we have automation that creates the matching entries in the external system, as well as making automated adjustments to dynamic groups. Today, in order for this to work, the IM Project needs to be created in the first-level staging server, and then an administrator needs to manually migrate the changes through to production. This is defeating some of the benefits of the automation.

Setting that property (mksis.im.allowProjectModificationOnLockedServer) has no effect on a locked PTC Integrity 11.1 server.  Only the mksis.im.allowPrincipalCreationOnLockedServer property changes behavior; it allows administrations to create or import static groups and users into a locked server without requiring Admin Migration from the Staging server.

Did you create a Case with PTC Support to validiate?

I opened a case to ask about support for editing membership of Dynamic Groups within a locked server, and was pointed to Support article CS159584, which states that both creation of Projects and editing of Dynamic Groups is not supported within a locked server.  I mentioned the property that you had suggested, and they stated that was not supported.

I really want to know why this prop works for 10.9 but not for 11.1 anymore. Its not logical, from my view.

Having the option to create projects on PROD server first is very essential for my client, they have distributed team administrators and they should not all have access to any other stage environment than PROD.

I would suggest that you again ask about an alternative for 11.1.

This process is very very common, and Integrity should not stop this functionality during an upgrade.

A further update to this:  On Integrity 11.2, the mksis.im.allowProjectModificationOnLockedServer property is working again; you can create Projects on a locked 11.2 server.  It is still not officially supported according to PTC Support.  Also, the property does not change the inability to create or edit a Dynamic Group on a locked server.

Seems that it is NOT working again with 12.0. What the heck are you doing at PTC? And where is the point in allowing the creation or editing of static groups, but not of dynamic groups?

just tried with 12.0

only users and groups can be created/modified.

@Shree the users will automatically get added to the W&D Users on first login even on a locked server.

Very interesting.  At LiveWorx 18, I posted the following request to properly support Project Management within Locked Integrity Servers:

At the time, Christoph Braeuchle of PTC and his product managers promised to investigate the effort to support the two property settings I identified in the above posting, potentially in the 12.0 release.  Based on the latest postings in this discussion, it looks like they disabled the property settings instead!

projects can be created an edited on a locked server

mksis.im.allowPrincipalCreationOnLockedServer=true

allows static group and user creation, dynamic groups still seem to be locked
