This is a product idea conversion of case 228058 and RFC 295575 from January of 2016.

 

Fields should have the ability to dynamically scale to fit their content; this request is for edit views. Text fields may contain a sentence or they may contain paragraphs. IBPLs/picklists and relationships may have 1 selection or they may have 100. Automatic resizing would benefit both authors and consumers.

 

Ideas:

  • Optional Dynamic Scaling
  • Minimum number of rows to display
  • Maximum number of rows to display

Allow a field to grow to take up available visible space in Integrity LM

  • Allow the relationship field entry to be expanded
  • Expand relationship field entry
  • Allow customization of a field's real estate
  • Allow a field size to be customized in order to take advantage of available space

Great idea, would address one of my biggest pains with Rich Text fields especially.

May also overlap with the thread about the UI presentation templates and editor, where a field definition may indicate to use whatever space is available, and then the presentation template defines that space (in a better manner than it does today).

I can see this being useful on many field types.

"PTC Inc is working on a plan to revamp the UI & this idea is likely to find a place in the new UI that we want to build. Please watch-out for an announcement related to this in the coming weeks.

This idea at its core relates to the Swing / Java Client.

Windchill RV&S significant UI/UX improvements will be focused on the Refreshed Web UI where aspects like browser zoom, font height...etc. are already taken into consideration.

Please review your view and let us know if you still see a gap working with the above fields.
