Export activities from PTC Modeler to Windchill

Export activities from PTC Modeler to Windchill

1. Describe your environment: What is your industry? What is your role in your organization? Describe your stakeholders.
As a solution architect in the medical device industry I support users of the MBSE tool PTC Modeler.

2. What product and version are you currently running?
PTC Modeler 9.5 & PTC Modeler Web Interface

3. Describe the problem you are trying to solve. Please include detailed documentation such as screenshots, images or video.

I am looking for a way to export SysML activities/actions from PTC Modeler to Windchill. Are there any OOTB solutions like the Windchill Export for logical elements or any possibilities to configure Modeler and Windchill in such a way?

Else, are there any best practices known to share functional elements that are defined in the Modeler?

4. What is the use case for your organization?

We would like to export functional elements from PTC Modeler to Windchill in order to manage those functions in a functional breakdown structure and "offer" the functions to several working groups.

5. What business value would your suggestion represent for your organization?
Re-use of functions that are defined in PTC Modeler.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your idea, this is a new suggestion to export SysML activities to PLM. What type of item in Windchill PLM would you want them to map to?

I think there are a few options today that might not give you exactly what you're looking for but will help connect the different design domains.

1) Use PTC's OSLC integrations to connect PLM data to Modeler data. This could take different forms but one example would be to design the activity/function model in Windchill Modeler as normal (creating the functional breakdown structure) and then create OSLC links between that functional structure and the relevant design data in Windchill PLM (e.g. Parts, or part type extensions)

To "offer" the function model/structure you could use the OSLC search feature in Windchill PLM, or use Modeler's Web Interface to share links to diagrams or model elements. Or use Publisher to export into a Word document and share that way (maybe as a WTDocument in Windchill PLM?)

2) Use the APIs (REST, OSLC, Automation Interface) we have to extract the relevant function/activity elements and then share them in a custom app, or customization on top of Windchill PLM.

3) Use SysML Blocks, or extensions of blocks to model the functional structure. Then you are able to export these element to Windchill PLM using the Windchill Exporter.
