Extend item differencing (different item types and field types)

Extend item differencing (different item types and field types)

Integirty 10.8 added the ability to compare two document version, but the same feature does not exist for comparing two individual node versions or items which are not part of the document model. It would be really useful to see a marked-up difference of item item between two dates within the client.

The difference also needs to support different field types. If  can be very difficult to know what has been added or removed when there is a list of relationship IDs. Parameter values are also very difficult to compare because of the way the values are stored.

Hi @jhampson could you please confirm what is the business use case you are trying to achieve? Comparing two similar or two unrelated documents  (a.k.a. Document Differencing) was provided to help uses to compare structural changes, new additions/deletions when the Document is getting evolved and so on so forth.

I am not able to understand your need for comparing two work items, could you please elaborate?

I was thinking of comparing the same item as of two dates as a particular use case that happens frequently.

Some work items have a longer lifetime before they are actually done. A User Story for instance can be on the backlog for quite a while. During that period, it might also change. Refinement is the intention, but sometimes things change. A check with the original request is sometimes required.

A Test Objective can have its description changed, intentionally or accidentally changing its scope. A historical view is sometimes required.

Et cetera.
