We would like to use the insert document feature to refer to a separately developed module. Proper configuration management dictates that you refer to the specific version of the component. However, we're not able to do this with this feature. We can only insert the document as such, so always the latest. When the module is revised, the documentation of the system would be updated too in this way. But the system itself is not necessarily updated with the latest version of the module. So, the documentation is not reflecting reality anymore. This is a critical gap in our quality system.
The only workaround we have (and use) is a branch for every version. But this causes a lot of duplication and doesn't really leverage the concepts of versioning, reuse and configuration management.
Hence the feature request to insert versioned documents as subdocuments.
This is in correspondence with an older discussion which refers to an RFC on the old portal.
fyi, we are on 10.4. So maybe it's already in.
