I´m Windchill RV&S Admin working in the automotive industry. My stakeholders a project managers working in ASPICE projects.
I´m running Windchill RV&S 12.3.1.2 using the 64bit MS Project AddIn
The Problem:
The curent configuration of the MS Project AddIn can´t handle inconsistent relationships.
The integration uses the 'spawns' relationship to create the parent child relationships in MS Project.
If some items have a circle relationship the AddIn will enter an unescapable loop causing the tool to crash.
But the tool crashes (closing MS Project) without any warning and very late after several minutes.
You then have to look into the log files to identify the IDs causing this issue to go and fix the relationships.
Proposed Solution:
It would be good if:
1. the tool is able to notice if it is trapped in a loop
2. print the IDs causing the problem
3. continue synchronization with the next healthy ID
In any case, the tool shall not crash, but cancel open operations and print a meaningfull error message.
Usecase:
My organization needs to find a way to manage engineering projects for the automotive industry following the ASPICE standard. If the MS Project Integration is not stable, users will be frustrated using it on a daily basis.
That means it will not be accepted
Business Value:
The ability to fulfill ASPICE Level 2 and up is crucial for our business going forward.
