Take Over of existing RfC'S as new ideas

Take Over of existing RfC'S as new ideas

Over the last years a lot of RfC's has been collected in the Ticket System of PTC (former MKS).

As soon the RfC's has been given to PTC' Program Management, they are something like in a "Black Hole":

If this were older RfC's (maybe from the time when MKS has used Siebel as Ticket System), the original requestor does not see any content of them.

My idea is now to transfer ALL RfC's into the Ideas Application with a mark that they are still existing RfC's,

to allow the Community to decide whether these RfC's are of common interest or not.

Thank you Klaus for this very good idea. I also agree with the Black Hole metaphor .

Yes, we also had a time with MKS and PTC, and specially in the period of the aquirance of MKS through PTC, where we had a list of hundreds of RfC's which MKS/PTC seems not able to handle in a transparent way. In the last two years together with PTC we put much effort in organizing this list. As it comes clear that "ideas" are the new big thing, the first i thought was: "Ouch, hopefully they dont forget the RfC's..."

I think the problem is that you can see the list of RFCs that your organization added, but not the RFCs of others.

So letting the users (and not only PTC support/management) having an overview of all the existing RFCs would be great (although there could be many...)

You are right, that is one thing. But especially for older Cases (some years, as MKS has used Siebel as Ticket system), you usually only have the title of the case, not more.

Maybe it's on us to add our most important RFCs as ideas...

This is exactly the answer that I've got from PTC Support.

Nevertheless I am not able to check this in detail for all existing Rf'C's that have been created in caused from our company for at least two reason:

  1. I don't know all of the existing cases (partly they are older than I am working with Integrity)
  2. I can't see any RfC content.

But more important is the point that it would be great that wecould start a discussion about existing RfC's and could give an estimation what WE as customer think which issues are important.

Today this will only be done by PTC's Program Management somewhere in a private room, combined with Program Management's Roadmap of development areas, but completely intransparent for us as PTC customer.  THIS is exactly my intention to get it changed with this idea.

Totally agree

Yes, there are a lot of existing RFCs which we can extract from our previous system (which is still around for historical content). We have discussed this in some of the past User Group / Technical Committee meetings and determined it does not make sense to import all of the previous RFCs into the ideas site. There are just too many of them to do this for. We could decide if it makes sense to bring some of the previous RFCs over, but we need to determine the appropriate ones and how many.

If there are important ones that you are aware of, then populating them in the ideas site would be helpful.

This is exactly the problem.  WE don't have visibility to all of them the way PTC does, and it is very difficult for us to even extract our previously submitted RFCs from the "new" PTC portal as it's gone through several "upgrades" which made it increasingly difficult for us to even find our former RFCs.

Just export all of the RFCs that you have access to via your "historical content" archive and dump them all in here as specially marked "Ideas from the Archives" with zero votes (to start with).  We can then peruse them and vote up the ones we recognize as useful.

I totally agree.

If PTC don't like them to have visible for all in the way they originally had been raised, they might be taken over visible only by original requestor (or a company's responsible) to let them check whether they like to close them (and mark as obsolete), and with a second mark they could be made visible for Community.

This would on hand cover the restriction that no company's confidential data will be made visible for community without agreement of that company and/or to allow that company to remove confidential content.

On the other hand our (== comunity's) request to take over old but still open RfC's into Idea Application.

Hint to everyone:

Yesterday I noticed that Article's -referenced to older RfC's- which had an entry "If you like to get assigned to enhancement RFC <12345>, please contact PTC Support" will be handled different in future. PTC Support is no longer in charge to assign a customer to Enhancement RfC's, cause all existing one's btw. their articles will be changed with a comment:

"Not part of Integrity Lifecycle Manager functionality
To request this functionality, refer to Product Ideas @ PTC Community
"

Without any reaction to this idea it looks like Program Management has decided to NOT take over RfC's or cases into ideas under responsibility of PTC, but expects from the customer's (== from us) to do this job.

"What a surprise ..."   <sigh>

Hello,

is there any reaction at all from PTC Product Management regarding Ideas, besides that Tech Support now can send their template to close a case?

I have the feeling that nobody from PTC is looking at them on a regular basis, although we as customers are transferring old RFCs (based on some KCS article)  into new ideas.

Do you see any improvements regarding visibility from PTC in their enhancement process?

This is a Idea for the community site and not the product itself. We have a new team that is established to better manage the overall community site.

Thanks
