Usage of a "state-of-the-art" Application Server for Integrity

Today for Integrity is in use a self-developed (or self-configured ?)  Application Server.

It's disadvantage in administrating it is mainly, that for several changes in configuration like ...

- change of storage location of temp files

- re-configure of assigned RAM

- activate Agent (like PSM)

- (to continue)

it is mandatory to restart the server to activate that changes.

Additional the settings are widely spread over different files (mksservice.conf, nnn.properties) as well as somewhere in the AdminGUI.

"State of the art" Application Server have greater benefits that for only a limited amount of Configuration changes a restart is required; examples like listed above can be added and activated without restart of App.

Can you please confirm how many times do you make these server side configuration updates/changes on your system? are these frequent changes that you need to do? Also note that there is a performance cost when we try to make these kind of implicit changes in the system.

the amount doesn't matter.

But we have something like continuous activity regarding Performance Improvement.

For this I have had changes to our Server  (5 Main, 14 Proxy Server) around 10 times (per Server) within the last 2 months.

It would have been great to do that modifications of  mksservice.conf  as  well as some properties Files without restart.

In addition Applying Patches without Restart:  would be nice.

Next are overall Server Activities like

• Extending Data Mount (+ change of config Files)
• Adding RAM (+ change of config Files)

It is clear that general changes like Shift onto new Server require a Restart.

But in Market Application Server are able to activate most Configuration Changes without a Restart since more than 15 Years.

Only Deviation:  That one from PTC Integrity  (possibly also Windchill?).

Is this List sufficient?

That is a quite exhaustive list. If I request you to provide top 2 or 3 then what would you like to suggest?

Your Application Server is self-developed and thus -compared with market- old-fashioned.

I don't like to define TOP 2 or 3 list of wishes. My only one is: Exchange that old peace of Software with a state-of-the-art one.
Don't program it by yoruself, exchange it with something that common and stable.
