Question from Raghu: This document search is good and much needed. I really wish Windchill had the ability to search with Creo drawings (notes).
Answer: You can figure solr to index the text in (Creo Parametric) drawings by setting indexable to true for the DRW format name. http://www.ptc.com/cs/help/windchill_hc/wc100_hc/index.jspx?id=WCCG_Serv_DataFormats_AddUpdateDataFormats&action=show.
Question from Raghu: Configure "solr" to index...what is solr?
Answer: Solr is the indexing capabilities imbedded in Windchill. It's open source enterprise search platform built on Apache Lucene.

Question from Randeep: Can you talk about document retention policy functionality and what tools are available for document redlining?
Answer: Document Retention Policies - The way we typically recommend this be done via a Life Cycle state. For example, have a lifecycle state of obsolete. When that document reaches that state, the access control policies limit access to those documents to only specific admins. Tools available for redlining - Of course you could still use MS Word markup and edit tracking tools assuming you are using Word. In Windchill itself, we have the ability to do document relining in CreoView.

Question from Timothy: Is there a way to search for files attached in the Attachment panel of an unknown document number's Content tab?
Answer: We will test and add our results to the Q&A. There is an alternative approach if you need to index and search for the content of an attachment, you can check it in as a unique controlled document within WC and then you can associate the two documents or create a document structure. Good news! We discovered that both primary and secondary content (attachments) can be set to index. https://support.ptc.com/help/wnc/r12.0.2.0/en/index.html#page/Windchill_Help_Center/WCSysAdminIndexSearchIndexingRules.html
