Applet on Windchill 7.0 with HTTPS and Reverse Proxy

Hello,

Has anyone got Windchill 7.0 running with HTTPS and
Reverse Proxy setup, with all applets working?

I am facing a problem in this setup - the Workflow
Task Content applet (for adding removing attachments
to the Task).

The Task Content Applet fails with
sun.plugin.cache.DownloadException followed by
java.lang.StackOverflowError

Since it is R7.0, I have to use Java plugin 1.4.2

I have done HTTPS and Reverse Proxy settings as per
the Windchill Install and System admin guides and TPI
130548
https://www.ptc.com/appserver/cs/view/solution.jsp?n=130548

The client plugin (1.4.2) settings include:
-Djava.protocol.handler.pkgs=HTTPClient
-Dwt.boot.socketFactory=wt.boot.WTRMIHttpToCodebaseSocketFactory

All other applets don’t seem to have any problem, but
this applet fails.

Anybody knows the solution, kindly help me. If you
need to know more, I will be glad to share more
details.

When I googled, I found following bug, reported 2
years back and not resolved yet.. sure it must have
hit someone in Windchill community.

Thanks & Regards,
Nilesh

Well, the mailing list won't allow the presentation to be attached due
to length. Given the 50K length limit, interested parties will have to
get the information another way.

Re: Applet on Windchill 7.0 with HTTPS and Reverse Proxy

Hello Jess,

Thanks a lot !! You just made my day 🙂

Fortunately we are at R7.0 M060 and so I could use
Java Plugin version 1.5.0_06 which resolved this issue
!!

We had earlier tried using latest 1.4.2 plugin
(1.4.2_11), which did not help.
This isssue is only resolved by using pluin version
1.5.0 (I directly tried the latest one: 1.5.0_06).

NO errors in the java console while using the Task
Content Applet !!

I also observed appreciable performance improvement
for all applets using plugn-1.5 ... don't know if this
was because only few of us were hitting the server on
May-1st holiday..

Thanks & Regards,
Nilesh

The Java 5 Plug-In *is* faster overall.

Also, we took steps to reduce some of the overhead built into RMI in
M050, though you'll only see this benefit when the boot.jar is installed.
