All,

I’ve some doubts about the setup required for Windchill 10.1 upgrade.

1. Per PTC, it supports Windchill upgrade even when we have both
Windchill 9.1 and Windchill 10.1 on same machine. Is it a good option?

2. What are the benefits of having separate setup, one for Source (WC
9.1) and other for Target (WC 10.1) vs. having both on the same machine?

Thanks in Advance,

Sunil

One benefit to having separate machines is that is something goes wrong
and you have to roll back, a separate machine makes rolling back to the
original easier.

We successfully moved from 9.1 to 10.0 in May, and we had entirely
different machines for our 10.0 system vs our 9.1 system. We still have
our 9.1 system running in read-only mode, as well, just in case we want to
go back and look at something there.

Someone just mentioned to me that this JT extension used to interface with
NX is an add-on for 10K list price. Is this true? If so, is this a local
server deal? or an installed app local to each machine? is the price per
user? or for the whole company? has anyone interfaced with NX using
PDMlink where PDMlink keeps a mixed nx-jt-prt/asm assembly or WTpart? Will
pro/e use automatically a JT file where a WT part only contains an NX cad
source and a JT? Or is it that the JT is just attached to the WT part like
a doc or a pdf would be?

PTC doesn't help its self. we need to always carry their hand so they can
sell us the right software... we are all really interested in how the JT
format works and if we can use it to effectively communicate with a company
using NX or other software. Any tidbit of real information would be
appreciated.
