We have resistor suppliers submitting IPCs for non-leaded frits SiO2-Bi2O3-B2O3. I cannot find a CAS for this anywhere. Have you seen this disclosed? If so, what CAS do you use?
Thanks,
Kim
Hi Kim, according to our material expert, the best option is to get % of different substances (in the patents if available) - at the substance level, you will have CAS numbers
I am surprised that the glass passivation is not leaded, from what I have heard most resistor companies are using leaded glass. The lead adds important electrical properties to the glass. I would like to know what manufacturer/resistor type you are using.
Either way, I used one of the discussion groups I am in in LinkedIn to find the following CAS#'s
Hope the above helps out, let me know if you need links to CAS# search tools, I've got a few that work OK.
Thanks Jeffrey, the first one on your list may be the best bet. That or I may request our IT group create a custom SYSTEM CAS number for Glass Frits SiO2-Bi2O3-B2O3 and train our suppliers to use that.
Vishay, calls their products that don't claim RoHS exemptions as "Green". See this spec sheet for a "Green" resistor. http://www.vishay.com/docs/20047/rcge3.pdf on the top right of page 1 it has a link to their definitions of lead-free (termination only, exempted glass) version Green which utilized no exemptions.
I would love links to your CAS search tools. I typically use http://chem.sis.nlm.nih.gov/chemidplus/chemidheavy.jsp
Kim,
Sorry for the tardy reply, I have had some health issues and quitefrankly this forum rarely give much useful feedback. The best sites for CAS# lookup in my book are:
http://iaspub.epa.gov/sor_internet/registry/substreg/searchandretrieve/substancesearch/search.do
http://www.commonchemistry.org/index.aspx
There are CAS#'s for Glass Frits, they is 65997-18-4 (inorganic frits) , and 65997-17-3. There is also a CAS# for Lead Borosilicate which is 56939-15-2, but I have not gotten the details from the Chemical Abstract Service people as they want a blank check to do a search and I am not willing to sign one.
Let me know if you have any thoughts at jeffrey_cholin@bose.com
Also, have you heard of an upcoming CAB meeting, usually there is one about this time?
Jeff
