Can you upgrade 10.1 to 10.2 on single machine?

Can you upgrade 10.1 to 10.2 on single machine?

I am starting down the path of upgrading from 10.1 m040 to 10.2 m020. So far looking at the the documentation, it looks like I need another machine to install 10.2 on. What I am trying to do is to install it on the same server that I currently have. I know that is how I did it with the 10.0 to 10.1 upgrade, but I do not even get the Update Existing Installation button. Do I have to have another machine or is there a way to do it on just one machine? If I can do it on one machine, does anyone have a simple outline of the steps that are needed?

Thank you,

Brian

Yes. The upgrade process does not depend on the other system running to do the upgrade. Here is the basic process.

  1. Shut down the current system. It should never need to be turned on again.
  2. Export the database
  3. Export the LDAP
  4. Install the new system (with it's own database)
  5. Start it up and make sure it functions.
  6. Shut down the new system.
  7. Copy over any customizations and property changes (rbinfo, etc.)
  8. Import the old database on top of the new one
  9. Import the old LDAP. It will get merged with the new one.
  10. Run the upgrade tool. This goes through and converts the old database to work with the new install.

The Windchill install is very much folder centric. You can simply install the new version in a new folder. If you don't want the old install anymore, simply delete the folder.

I'm sure there are some nuances I'm missing, but I think that's the bulk of it.

So basically do not install 10.2 to the same folder as 10.1.

I will give that a try.

Thanks!
