Case: 14181447 Update from Windchill PDMLink 11.0 M030 to 11.0 M030 CPS09 failed

The symptom:

  • Update from Windchill PDMLink 11.0 M030 to 11.0 M030 CPS09 failed ,errors in PSI log:

DEBUG  2018-06-24 07:54:48 - Installing files from data file: wmd_WC_WINDCHILL_ROOT-src_inst-DUMMY-EMPTY_SPD_FLDR_995_sf
DEBUG  2018-06-24 07:54:48 - Installing: D:\ptc\Windchill_11.0\Windchill\EMPTY_FILE
DEBUG  2018-06-24 07:54:48 - ERROR: While extracting ZIP file entry: "EMPTY_FILE"
DEBUG  2018-06-24 07:54:48 - Exception thrown:
DEBUG  2018-06-24 07:54:48 - java.io.FileNotFoundException: D:\ptc\Windchill_11.0\Windchill\EMPTY_FILE (Another program is using this file, the process cannot be accessed)
DEBUG  2018-06-24 07:54:48 - Data content installed files count: 0
DEBUG  2018-06-24 07:54:48 - Data content install failed files count: 1
DEBUG  2018-06-24 07:54:48 - Data file "wmd_WC_WINDCHILL_ROOT-src_inst-DUMMY-EMPTY_SPD_FLDR_995_sf" installed files count: 0
DEBUG  2018-06-24 07:54:48 - Data file "wmd_WC_WINDCHILL_ROOT-src_inst-DUMMY-EMPTY_SPD_FLDR_995_sf" install failed files count: 1

  •  But other processes can use the file: D:\ptc\Windchill_11.0\Windchill\EMPTY_FILE to install successfully before and after the time when the problem occurred( please see the screenshots)

What had i done:

  • Confirm with customer: windchill service had already closed before installation

Hi

Please check if there are any encryption software installed on the server machine, if yes turn off the software for installation to complete. Also check about these :

  • Install on drive with enough disk space.
  • Disable antivirus software and reinstall.
  • Download and extract installation files again.
  • Provide correct permission to staging area and Windchill installation directory.

Try to run CPS as administrator

  • Download and extract installation files again.
  • Provide correct permission to staging area and Windchill installation directory.
