Check Out & Revise and Check Out

I finally realized today why some of my users have been creating unintended revisions to files.

In the file menu of ProE & Creo, Check Out... & Revise and Check Out..., are right next to each other.

Sometimes they pick Revise and Check Out when all they wanted to do was a Check Out.

Is there any way to prevent Revise and Check Out if the file is not released?

It doesn't make any sense to revise an unreleased object. At least I can't think of one off the top of my head.

You can probably use a combination of

- life cycle transitions in the life cycle template to control when users
see "Revise" by what state the object is in and what states it can or
cannot revise to, and
- access control rules

so that WIP states cannot be revised (only modified) where as the Released
state can only be Revised (not modified).

If you allow the revision of WIP objects and/or the editing of Released
objects, then you are stuck with the user having to pick the right option
in the pull down list.

Inside of CREO/Pro/E I'm not sure if the Revise would not show up if you
set up your rules in Windchill not to allow an object in a certain state
to be revised, or if Revise would show up in the list, but you would get
an error if the transitions and access rules did not allow it. You'd have
to try out some different approaches and test them to see what works for
your case.

Hi David

I removed the 'File' menu pick via config.win, though you can still see it via model-tree-right-click or in the dialog when you modify something.

Had a case open with PTC about it, they reached a dead end.

In our rules, normal users are stopped by access rules by revising CAD, though admins can do it when required.
