Common Replication Issues and Causes

Hi All,
We seem to always always always have issues with replication. While I am not heavily involved in configuring the replication, the issue has continually been brought up in our admin meetings.
I'm wondering if anyone has a list of common issues that can occur with replication that might help us trouble shoot the issue. From what I understand, we have worked with Technical Support without figuring out the problem or the solution.
What we know is that we are supposed to be replicating to three or four different locations but no files or sometimes only a few files replicate. We are not seeing large amounts of files being replicated as we would expect.
For the most part, we've been living with this issue for over a year....but it really annoys me when we have a capability that should be working but isn't.
I'm not sure if this matters, but we're on 9.1 M020.
Thanks in advance for any advice/help regarding this issue.

Mike ,
Replication is a very interesting functionality in Windchill. If the system
is configured properly, hardly there is a chance of having issues. If you are
expecting the list , i dont think anybody (even PTC) can provide you the
same.

You have to come out specifically what are the issues that you are facing in
your system. Also you need to let the community know what type of
replication are you using like are you using the normal Replica or CCS. Also
what are the OS and how many sites are you using.

Another point ,i want to add here is that since you have mentioned that you
are on 9.1 M020, from 9.1 there are different ways by which you can
configure your replicas and different ways by which you can trigger the
replication like are you using the JConsole or are you using the
conventional UI.

My experience says that please be sepcific with your issues and the type you
are using then I may be able to help you.

The intention of this email is to let you guide you through the
troubleshooting process that you should do to find where the issue is.

Hope this helps. And let me know the specific issue you are facing in your
system.

Cheers
Mayur

Hi Michael,

A couple of things to check to make sure all is well.

1. Check the wrfmTransport directory in your <wt_home>/tmp location both on the replicas and the master to ensure there is still enough space. This the location where the master/replicas store files before they are replicated. The windchill system is suppose to clean this up every now and then, but sometimes it doesn't. I got a patch from PTC to correct this.

2. Also check your replication rules. I know we had issues with replicated rules that were migrated from 8.0 during the upgrade. We ended up deleting all of it and recreated them in 9.1. 9.1 has a better rules management anyways.

These are just the two things that caused me some problems post 9.1 upgrade and your issue sounded just like what we experienced.

We have found it necessary to restart remote vaults after the master is
restarted.

We restart our master every night for backup purposes and never restart the remote sites.
Winchill 9.1 M050.

I doubt if that should be the case. If master is updated then this holds
true .....
Any ways if it worked for you then surely i know Windchill does behave in a
weird manner sometimes.

Did you check if Master and Replica are on the same site level (windchill
version).
Talking about the file size threshhold property,it is good if it is kept on
Master and Replica.
