FYI, it was a case of expired Licences, although as one set of licences hadn’t expired the Windchill System was still functional.
Albeit the licence group the user was assigned to had expired.

Let us know a bit more about your setup. You are using Creo 10 but what version of Windchill are you connecting to? I want to eliminate any version incompatibility. Did this just start happening and are others seeing it? You should get a login prompt or some authentication step either when you open or when you try to access Windchill. You are saying that you see the folders showing which should mean you did authenticate. What does Server Manager say? (File - Manage Session - Server management)
You can try switching to no server and then back again.

This article could point to local cache corruption. You might have to delete the local cache and recreate connection. If you have locally modified work, you want to ensure that gets backed up.
