Creo 8.0 and Windchill 12

Can we upgrade to Creo 8.0 and windchill 12 simultaneously?

we are currently in Creo 4.0 M150 and  windchill 11 which is no longer supported we need to upgrade to Creo 8.0 and windchill 12 is there a possibility we can upgrade both simultaneously or we need to upgrade windchill 12 first then to creo 8.0?

Hi,

Upgrading both your CAD and Windchill to such a giant leap is not something I have seen companies do.

Usually CAD integration to windchill is a deep area and you need to focus on getting your CAD upgrade a high priority, also would recommend to do in 2 steps instead of a giant leap.

Please look in to a document called Windchill  - supported upgrade paths, I doubt if a direct upgrade to 12 from 11 exists, you may have to do a technical upgrade to 11.2 I think. Please check that document.

Cheers

You can, but it requires a lot of coordination along the way.

The upgrade matrix shows that any release of 11.0 can be upgraded to any release of 12.0 or 12.1.2.

Creo 8.0.0.0 is compatible with 12.0.2 or 8.0.2.0 with 12.1.0.

Windchill 12.0 is out of support as of the end of June 2024.

Creo 8.0 is out of support in April 2025.

I would immediately plan on a second upgrade to bring your Windchill and Creo versions to the latest versions so you have some room to work within the support windows.

Let me add additional information to your process.

Creo 4 is probably not going to work with Windchill12, at least it won't be a tested or certified system.

Creo 7 at some release is probably certified with Windchill 11.0 Mxx. You did not specify your exact Windchill 11 release.

Creo 7.0.1.0 will work with WIndchill 12.0.0.0 and Creo 7.0.6.0 will work with Windchill 12.1..0.0.

My plan would be an upgrade to Creo first to a version that works with your existing Windchill release. Once that is stable, do your upgrade to Windchill 12.0.2 or 12.1.2 and then do further Creo upgrade to Creo 9 or 10. After that is stable, do an upgrade to Windchill 13.0.2. Creo 8 and higher is supported on 13.0.2. Creo 7 and higher is supported on 12.1.2. Creo 10 is the highest version supported by 12.0.2.

Windchill 12.0.2 end of support was June 2024. Windchill 12.1.2 end of support is December 2025 and 13.0.2 is June 2027.

@BenLoosli  We are using Windchill 11.0 M030 CPS22. We are planning to upgrade to Windchill 12 and wants to know if  Creo 7 supports both windchill 11.0 and 12.0, so that we can plan the creo upgrade first along with the windchill upgrade.

If you have Creo 4 running with Windchill 11.0 M030 CPS22, you have a long road to get upgraded to supported versions.

You can search the matrix pages for version compatibility, but a quick search shows you need some release of Windchill 11.2 that will run Creo 4 & Creo 7.

From there, Creo 7 will work with Windchill 12.0 and 12.1. Then you can do further Creo upgrades.

Thanks @BenLoosli for the update also i wanted to confirm will windchill 11.1 be compatible for Creo 4 and 7 or we should proceed with 11.2? I found Compatible matrix over community attached. Currently we are using Creo 4.0 M150 and Windchill 11.0 M030 CPS22. Can you please provide supported article for compatible matrix.

Based on Product Calendar support matrix page
https://support.ptc.com/cs/release-calendar/index.html

Stepped based process could be with these 3 milestones with go-lives:

  • upgrade to Creo 4.0.4 M40 and upgrade your CAD workers on your existing Windchill version
  • Upgrade WC 12.0.2.1 (compatible with Creo 4.0.4 M40)
  • Upgrade Creo 8.0.11.0 (compatible with WC 12.0.2)

From there you will be able to upgrade to WC13 if required and then upgrade Creo Parametric to the latest release.
