Hi Yoann

Be careful when you use Purge in Windchill

You Should be a Windchill Admin and should be aware of the Purge Function

To purge go to

Organization>Utilities>Purge Manager

Open Collection Criteria Manager

Create a New Collection

Specify Name and Description and Click Next

Include and exclude Products

When You include a product you can go to the folders of the product(Include and exclude Sub-Folders)

After selection of product and folder click Next

Select Criteria

Choose Object Type

Click Finish

Click Close

In Purge Manager Click New Job

Specify Name and Description and Click Next

Find/Select Query you have just created

Choose the query and click Ok

Click Next Next Next with suitable options

Then check the Status of Purge

Regards

K.Mahanta

when I try to create the Query,

and when I've selected the product

I've to select criteria but I don't Understand: I want to erase the whole product,

and if I try to select criteria it sais that

"criterias must have valid type of object"

thanks for your help

Hi

After you select a product and click next

A new window will popup (NEW QUERY)

In this screen there is Criteria selection option

In this dropdown select

1.Iteration and press add

2.Version and press add

3.Object type and press add

Then these options will be added in the screen

lteration gives you option to choose how many lteration you want to keep

Object type gives you option to choose which type of document you want to purge.

Click find and choose Document or EPM Document Or Part you want to purge

Version- choose All but Latest

Then Click Finish

I hope you can do now

Hi

I have Uploaded a document to for your understanding

http://communities.ptc.com/docs/DOC-2432

I hope this will help you

I've followed the directions given above but the purge job fails. The conflict message says:

"None of the objects causing conflicts found in objects to be purged. Cannot continue Purge operation"

Anyone have an idea what this error message means? I've tried many different queries and always get this error message

-Mike

Hi

can you upload the steps you have followed and type of data you want to purge

Regards

K.Mahanta

Here is the link to the powerpoint document I uploaded http://communities.ptc.com/docs/DOC-2485.

I am not wanting to delete the product folder though, I am only wanting to delete previous iterations of parts that reside in this product folder. Many of our parts have been checked in many times, some as many as 100+ times, so what I want to do is delete all the iterations except the last 2. But not only am I wanting to delete the 98+ previous iterations, I want to keep a history of the revision as well

Here is an example of what I mean.

Part Name Version State

Part A A.105 Released

A.1 In Work

Part A B.5 Released

B.1 In Work

Part A C.3 Released

C.1 In Work

As you can see, Part A Versions A had been checked in 105 times, Version B checked in 5 times, and Version C checked in 3 times. I would like to purge all but the last 2 iterations PER Revision, so what would only be seen would be:

Part Name Version State

Part A A.105 Released

A.104 In Work

Part A B.5 Released

B.4 In Work

Part A C.3 Released

C.2 In Work

I know I can delete each part individually but that would be way to time consuming since we have so many parts. Thats why I am trying to to see if I can get a batch purge to work. Also, no worries of me messing anything up as I am working on our development server.

Thanks for you help

-Mike

Hi

Does your folder contains family table parts ?

Because these kind of errors sometimes occur in folders containing family table parts

If so you have to contact PTC Support

https://www.ptc.com/appserver/cs/view/solution.jsp?n=CS18777

As per the PPT you are doing nothing wrong

Try to move some of the data to other subfolder and try again

Regards

K.Mahanta

The problem was with family tables parts. I moved approximately 10 parts that contained instances to another folder, then tried to purge again and it was successful.

I did notice that not all the parts were purged. Of the 100 or so parts that reside in the folder, only 30 were actually purged.

Nonetheless, our IT Dept has contacted PTC Support in regards to the family table issue.

Thanks for your help K. Mahanta

Hi

I am happy that atlast you are able to purge(not completely as per your requirement)

Check the log files created by the purge job. It might help you to understand why all the objects were not purged.

Regards

K.Mahanta

If purge is not helping, as a workaround you can prevent users from accessing required Product(s).
