Difference between Package and Techincal Data Package

What is the major difference in windchill between a Package and Techincal Data Package ? Why these are two different subtypes and not the subtype of a single type?

This article doesnt have anything answered.

But any idea why they are managed as separate types?

Hi @AP_10483126 

Because PTC has decided to allow users use two types of package where each type can be managed separately.

What data are managed by the type is up to you.

You have a option to use 2 different ways.

Thank you for the response. so if understood correctly both type of packages do the same functionality but PTC has just defined two subtypes?

Because whatever is sent through Technical data package also can be sent through just package.

A package is the basic form of the package object type that is not associated with an industry-standard use. Use this type if you want to create a package to provide information and a more specific type of package is not required.

A technical data package is used to provide technical product information. This type of package is commonly sent to suppliers, manufacturers, or customers

There are actually more types. Replication Package and if you have A&D module, SDRL and CDRL packages.
