EPM Document ICON - UI Layout

Hi Guys,

Can we add the EPM new creation icon in Commonspace itself? Mostly, we can create an EPM in the workspace, and also, when we create a WT Part with we can create an EPM Document. But I want to create an EPM directly in Commonspace.

Regards,

Aj

You can access workspaces via the browser to create CAD Documents. So they do not need to be created in a CAD integrated tool or the WGM but you functionality is limited. Must of CAD has associations to other CAD, attributes, etc. You can create objects but they will just have template CAD data inside of them. Real value comes from reading the CAD data to create structure.

@avillanueva Thanks for the replay.

We did one customization that is not working in the workspace, but that works in the commonspace for WT Part. We want the same as EPM that we want to create in commonspace.

Maybe use a Save As on an existing EPM? You can do that in Commonspace.

Thanks for the response. I would prefer to create new data rather than reuse existing data.

Scenario 1:

When we create a WTPart manually, we typically enable the associated CAD document during the creation process.

Scenario 2:

In some cases, WTParts are automatically created from SAP to Windchill. In such scenarios, CAD cannot be enabled during creation and must be created and associated manually with the WTPart.

We have implemented a customization where, based on a specific field (e.g., "Yes" or "No"):

  • "Yes" sets the initial state as INWORK

  • "No" sets the initial state as CONCEPT

However, this customization only works in commonspace for WTParts—it does not function within the workspace.

Regards,

AJ

How did you achieve the customization?

Perhaps you could consider instead of needing the specific state when the item is New in the workspace, enhance your customization to immediately change the state of the CAD model after the first check in.

Another possibility (but I have no idea if this would actually work), would be an OIR with some logic to choose the initial state.

This article shows it's possible to set the initial state in the OIR: https://www.ptc.com/en/support/article/CS28579?source=search

This article shows it's possible to add logic for different cases: https://www.ptc.com/en/support/article/CS219911

So, combining the two, maybe you can set an OIR where based on the attribute, different states are assigned. But maybe this is what you are already doing and it doesn't apply in the Workspace? I've never tried this myself.
