Expose Only Modified Geometry Components

We are implementing Windchill in our company (11.1.) and our toolshop construction engineers are having some problems. The thing is that when they make a small change to some object - which has many relations to other objects - all referenced parts also get checked out and consequently their iteration will arise upon checking it.

What they would love to see is some sort of mechanism that only exposes parts/assemblys that actually changed geometry.

Why? When they make a change to the existing tool, they want to know which parts of the tool needs to be made again/corrected and which can be reused. I bet there is some sort of a solution and I would thank anyone upfront if they have any clue what are we missing.

Windchill sees EVERYTHING. All relations in the Cad model will be captured and stored so things are kept in sync. You want to make sure you lock items when you add them to the workspace that you are specifically not wanting to checkout. This will stop Creo from checking them out when a regen modifies them but you will be asked...once.

Next step is to look at your designs for potential regen issues. Avoid using circular dependencies and watch out for relations that change upon regen often. For example, we had a family table that had a relation which would change a parameter when opening. We cleaned that up by adding the parameter to the family table which made it static and stopped the mass checkout.

Hi,

What @avillanueva mentions is the correct way. I would ask you to stress on his 2nd point on finding out the actual CAD connections. You may use the Windchill's Relationship Explorer Tab in the CAD Document page of the part of interest. You need to clear out several connections that are not useful, for example Assembly references that are not needed, Family table references, Skeleton References..

You can use Model check for keeping the CAD part healthy and having only meaningful / necessary relations.

Windchill Workspace locking is a good idea to live with the issue until its resolved.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Best Regards

Hari
