Hardware Sizing and Virtualisation

Hardware Sizing and Virtualisation

We want to move a production system from 3.4 M040 on HP Unix 11i to 3.4 M060 on windows 2003 Server on a Virtual Machine.

Could you recommand the Hardware / Memory Requirements for the new dataserver for a medium size database?
Documentation states 1 GB + 8 x NCS. What does that mean for 30 ProE Users?

Could you recommand an OS for the VM?
ESX 3.0.1 for example has been commented in some threads as realiable.

Chris,

I haven’t used ESXi in production for Intralink 3.4; however my testing shows it to work fine. I'd start with 2GB of RAM for the Dataserver and go from there. You can always adjust the RAM as needed in the VM.

Thanks Dave,

It will be ESX 3.5
Some people are speaking about performance with virtualisation. Any other recommandations on I/Os for example?
