I'm seeing two copies of same object in different versions and states?

The object was revised from a lifecycle and the version has successfully changed but when i do a search of the object i see 2 different copies of this object in the search.

The versions are visible to only some groups and the user wants to understand why it behaves so.

The End state of the initial life cycle is Archived;has this got anything to do with the behaviour.

check your "latest version" search preference

The reason only some people can see one of the revisions is likely down to permissions. Do all users have read permission on both states?
