Is it possible in PP to store CAD data in file vault?

I noticed that CAD (and other) file data is stored in database in BLOB fields. Is it possible to use file vaulting instead? In Windchill you can choose to use file vaulting or BLOBs.

External file vaults were considered and prototyped for Windchill ProductPoint 1.0. It was determined that it was not necessary to meet the performance objectives, and since external vaults add complexity to configuration, backup and restore, etc. it was decided to stick with the standard SharePoint BLOBs. This is something that we will consider for future releases if required.

By having the CAD files in SQL Blobs, it is necessary to have a licensed version of MS-SQL Server. If the CAD files were external, it would be quote easy to keep the database size below 2GB and use the free Express version of MS-SQL Server. Is this point worth of considering in future versions of ProductPoint? For SMB users it would lower the investment cost considerably.

I agree totally with Perttu. For SMB users every € counts.
